The Five Different areas in Self-Care
You are sitting in the office, it’s a busy week at work. There’s an important delivery for a project you are overseeing, loads of work, and your calendar is jam-packed with tasks and events. How do you make room for all these things? You over work, you cancel your yoga session, cut back on socializing and buy McDonalds. Sounds familiar? We don’t think twice before putting self-care on the back burner.
Self-care is essential for our physical and emotional health and well being.
There are different areas in self-care: physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional. Incorporating activities from each area will help us reduce stress and improve our well being.
Involves your fitness, eating and sleep habits.
- Go for a run
- Try a week without processed foods
- Try a new workout class
Involves personal growth, self development and practicing a positive mindset.
- Read a book
- Attend a workshop/class
- Listen to a podcast
Involves having a supporting network of people.
- Grab coffee with a friend
- Meet someone new
- Plan a trip with your family
Involves beliefs and values that help guide your life.
- Start journaling
- Start meditating
- Reflect on your personal mission statement
Involves awareness of feelings, dealing with stress and love for ourselves and others.
- Learn to say no
- Take a long warm bath
- Create loving, positive affirmations for yourself and repeat them daily
When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.Eleanor Brown
